Houtong Cat Village can be a nice stop from the Pingxi line.
Usually the train stops from this line are more for hikings but this stop is nice by being different.
Like it’s says, it’s a village with cats ! But from what I remember, there wasn’t thaaat many cats. The few I saw were usually hidding but of course you woulb be able to come closer to some of them. After all it’s cats, they come to you or not, they not gonna force themselves !
At the end I don’t really know if it’s a cat shelter or not. I just hope, if it is, it will stay like that and will not be transformed into a tourist attraction without taking care of the cats (even if it’s actually already a tourist attraction).
Houtong apart from being a Cat village, it’s an old mining town so when you arrive, you can also see the old mining area next to the river.
You can have a walk into the village or also go to the river but it’s a nice place.
