Old caoling trail is, I think, one of the top must-do walks near Taipei.
It’s a really nice trail because it crosses a lot of cool landscapes, from the jungle, to a really nice view of the sea, a landscape closer to the countryside, then into the moutains along a river …
From Taipei Nangang Station take train number 4154 to Dali Station (~ 1.40)
You start at the Dali Station, close to which you find a really beautiful Temple, where you can spend some time admiring the many decorations and rooms of the temple.

Then, as usual, you climb and climb and climb on the infinite stairs; during all the ascension you have an amazing view of the sea.

When you reach the top there are cute little platforms where you can sit down and rest a bit.

After you continue into the mountain area, you will find some amazing trees.

The original trail was supposed to finish shortly after the mountain but, as it happens quite often, when we go for a walk with my mom, it ends somewhere we didn’t expect.

After waiting for a bus to take us to Fulong, we changed our mind and finally made it to Gongliao Station, where we took train 4183 to Nangang Station (1h11).
At the end you come across some nice landscapes and temples.
