Gongliao District – Fulong Beach

Fulong Beach is located in Gongliao District in northern Taiwan.

Fulong Beach is the only beach we always go. It’s the most visited beach because it’s really easy to go there from Taipei city. You have to take train 4128 from Nangang Train station and stop at Fulong station (1h10).

Just next to Fulong station you have some shops, including one with tasty box lunches (biandang), quite famous. So if you don’t have come with your own food, it can be a good solution (they even have a vegetarian one).

Fulong beach is the most famous northern beach as Kenting is the most famous beach in south.

It’s a really big beach with nice golden sand, which is not that commun in Taiwan. The water is super warm, especially if you are used to the cold atlantic sea.

To go there you have to pay an entrance fee of NT$100 which can be a bit crazy when you come from france, because you never pay to go to a beach. But the fee is to keep the beach clean.

But it depends, at some times of the year you don’t pay (counter closed).

One day, when I came back from a hike not far from Fulong beach, I wanted to go to the beach to have a quick swim and I didn’t want to pay the fee so I went not far from there and I saw the public beach c-o-v-e-r-e-d by trash. It was awfull. That made me realize that if they don’t see to this problem the beach is turning quickly into a trash bin and that’s really sad.

I started picking up some plastic like I sometimes do in France, but I was quickly discouraged by the amount of trash …

The fact that in Taiwan so many people eat fast food, take away and all the night markets … it creates a LOT of packaging and I thing this also contributes to the pollution (apart from that coming with the tides).

I just hope the awareness will grow with and more and more actions will be taken .
