After a night in the amazing B&B (from the previous article), we decided to go for a long walk to Fenqihu.
The day started with a really nice weather.
It was a really long walk which started in a fairly open landscape with mostly plantations. We saw some women working in the fields, an overall very relaxing impression, rather disconnected from the big cities of Taiwan.

The area is just amazing. I my opinion it’s one of the most beautiful places in Taiwan, not only because of the landscape, but also because of the atmosphere I felt there.

Later the trail leads deeper into the Jungle, in more mountainous surroundings. We almost lost our way at one point. Gladly I had my phone.
The path was really in the middle of nowhere and during the whole walk we went across one single person, if I remember well. But that’s part of the adventure and this is what I am looking for.

We went through a lot of bamboo forests. I didn’t know that so many variations of bamboo exist. When you are from Europe, you think about one kind of bamboo, but here you discover bamboos of many different colours and shades.

A bit later, the weather was getting worth (as the common people would say… for me it was getting better ! I just love the atmosphere of the Taiwanese jungle when it starts to rain; because of the heat the rain evaporates and the mist appears, simply magic in that kind of landscape.

At one moment we even had a glimpse on some wild monkeys, jumping in the trees. It made the atmosphere even more magical, surrounded by this misty jungle.

At the end, we really had a hard time going down mountain. It was raining like hell and of course the way was covered with slippery rocks. But we managed to make it to Fenqihu city.
We were lucky to discover a little town, full of shops and eateries. We took the usual food tray and after this long trip we really appreciated. While eating I discovered that I had some leeches on my neck and legs. Well, that’s part of the adventure !

To go back to Chiayi, we took bus 7329 (around 2.40) and then back to Taipei, what took us another 3 hours from Chiayi train station to Taipei Main Station.
