Xinyi District – Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall

Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall is, as you can imagine, a memorial to Dr Sun Yat-sen.

Dr Sun Yat-sen was the first president of the republic of China.

Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall was completed in 1972.

Around the memorial there is also a really nice park where you find birds, squirrels, turtles …a pond.

AND you find the best place ever in that area: Bigtom Cafe ! The most amazing waffles ever ! Sit on the shady terrace and listen to some good music while watching the squirrels and a glance at 101. We go there quite frequently.

We were lucky this year (2023), to be in Taiwan during the famous Lantern Festival during Chinese New Year. And this year, the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall’s park was full of lanterns. It was really impressive. Fortunately the festival lasts more than one week, because as you can imagine, it was full of people.

It’s not just paper lanterns, some of them, like the Dragon at one of the entrances could move. Every maybe 40min, after nightfall, the Dragon would move during 15min with a little animation and a very epic Music.

Because it was the year of the rabbit, there was a big robot Rabbit in the middle of the Park, and like the dragons, it was animated every 40min. It was turning 360°, blinking in all directions, wishing « Happy New Year » to Taiwan. It was cool, especially the music.
