For our Taroko National Park day trip we spend one night in Hualien city (article from the city) . From the City to Taroko National Park we took the Bus 1133 that took around 40 min until the Taroko Gorge entrance.
Taroko became a national park in 1986. The Park is one of the nine national parks in Taiwan and Taiwan’s most known and celebrated tourist attractions.
Taroko National Park is famous for its spectacular cliffs and canyons landscapes shaped by the Liwu River.
You will see also suspension bridges, waterfalls, shrines, and hiking paths …
Be also careful when you want to visit the Park because during typhoons (which are pretty current in Taiwan), the Park can be closed. So I would recommend visiting Taroko Gorge not during the typhoon season (July – September).
We went there in July and the day after we came back, a Typhoon came across the region (so it’s the information is really accurate !).
When you want to visit Taroko National Park, you can arrive from the both side of the Canyon (from the inside or from the sea). We arrived from the outside where you can find the Taroko Visitor Center, which is also a Bus stop.
When you arrived from this side, one of the first trail you can see is the Shakadang Trail. You can see it from the Shakadang Bridge.

This 8.8km trail is an easy one, accessible for all ages. It’s a trail inside the cliff which goes along the Liwu River.

We didn’t do it because you needed a permit.
Before visiting Taroko park we didn’t really had a plan so we just went were we saw trails and were it looked nice.
So we continued to walk and went accross the Changchun Shrine trail.
